This book Bak Chit Gai, using the form of a cookbook, demonstrates the transpacific relationship between three generations in the context of an immigrant family. Bak Chit Gai is a Cantonese dish that is often served in family gatherings. Through the complex process of making this chicken, I am breaking the ideal image of family that is often promoted in our society. Along with transcribed discussion on encountered anecdotes and health concerns, I want to take my mother out of her role as a mother and re-identify her as an independent woman.
